For Unfortunately, my task was to utilize AI and machine learning to produce a way to experience data as a physical or experiential material, which I used to connect my personal journey with ADPKD to the broader community on the r/ADPKD Reddit thread. I began by using a Reddit API to export community posts, then applied classification and sentiment analysis to link each post to specific keywords from my own personal story. To elevate the data experience into an emotional narrative, I integrated a voice API so that when a user selects a keyword, it triggers an audio reading of the corresponding post alongside my own recited story. The generated voices hold deep personal significance, cloned from my father—whom I inherited the disease from—and from my own voice as a child. I titled the project Unfortunately because across a lifetime of clinical, sterile medical reports, only a single clinician used the word "unfortunately," a rare fracture in standard medical language that unexpectedly demonstrated a sense of raw humanity.
