For the Remix Data assignment, the challenge was to iteratively explore typography, semantic HTML, and CSS by creating 20 distinct webpage variations of a single, existing poem, ensuring its original content remained completely intact. Choosing Wendy Cope's The Orange—a poem celebrated for its quiet appreciation of simple, shared human joy—I designed 20 visual treatments to experiment with shifts in composition, typography, hierarchy, scale, and pacing. To organize this extensive visual exploration, I established five distinct rules of change, creating four unique variations for each theme: Oranges (reimagining the physical, circular form of the fruit), Sharing (visually representing the act of division and distribution), Attention (manipulating scale and hierarchy to guide the reader’s focus), Play (translating lightheartedness into interactive, game-like visual layouts), and Flow (utilizing CSS animation to express pacing and movement). Ultimately, this project served as a rigorous study in how structural code can be manipulated to visually express and deepen the emotional resonance of a written text.
